Six Construct, a subsidiary of the BESIX Group, is the largest Belgian construction company operating in the Middle East. The company combines the efforts of a highly skilled workforce, along with strategic planning and innovative use of technology to overcome the most complex business challenges. Six Construct is a multi-services company that operates in the construction of commercial and residential buildings, sport and leisure facilities, infrastructure and marine-related projects. The company currently employs a workforce of approximately 9,000 in the Middle East, and a total of 15,000 worldwide.

Since first going into action in 1909, the BESIX Group has over the years grown into a multidisciplinary company with a leading position in its markets: construction, property development and concessions. BESIX Contracting specializes in construction, infrastructure and marine works, often in contracts with a high level of complexity. In Benelux and France, the Group’s regional affiliates BESIX Infra, Cobelba, Jacques Delens, Vanhout, Wust and Lux TP ensure a strong presence and a local approach. With Franki Foundations, Socogetra, Sanotec and Van den Berg, the Group offers specialist niche solutions for the building market like deep foundations, geo-engineering, road construction, water treatment and cable and pipeline construction.

Backed by our experience in our home markets, we have built up strong positions outside Europe. In the Middle East, over a 50-year period, we have built up an impressive portfolio. This diversification in activities and geography pays off by reducing our risk exposure.

Features

About Six Construct

ESIX Group has to adapt to increasingly demanding client requirements. Clients are asking BESIX to master ever greater challenges: unique architecture, technical complexity, very high logistic requirements, top performance and extremely tight construction deadlines.

To this end, BESIX Group does not hesitate to go beyond limitations. Its Engineering and Design, Tendering, Methods and Planning departments are all involved in these projects and this gives that extra dose of imagination and innovation to carry them through successfully.

A Building Information Model (BIM) system is used to integrate all information relevant to a construction project into a 3D model.

The market is increasingly calling for more environmentally friendly buildings, with clients seeking to have their projects labelled HQE (Haute Qualité Environnementale), LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) or BREEAM (Environmental Assessment Method).

Legacy

Having entered the Gulf market in 1965, Six Construct is proud to celebrate its 54th operating anniversary within the region.

The company has had the honour of working with a very unique portfolio of projects and clients over the years, including among others:

  • Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi
  • Dubai Water Canal
  • The Green Planet, City Walk Dubai

In-House Engineering Department

At all times the teams of BESIX can rely on the expertise and creativity of its in-house engineering department equally split between Europe (BESIX - Brussels) and the Middle East (Six Construct - Dubai Engineering Department). Our over 150 engineers have the right attitude, competences and experience to maximize the value of our projects for and with our clients. Honoring the first time right principle, we ensure intense collaboration between the off and on site teams for a flawless execution, cutting failure cost.

By aligning our expertise with our client demands, the BESIX Engineering teams have developed centres of excellence focused on tall building (high rise, stadiums, offices, industrial), marine works (jetties, quay walls, breakwaters) and civil works (tunnels, bridges, infrastructure).

In order to ensure our strong commitment to constructability and safety BESIX Engineering department can build on the expertise of an integrated methods and planning department.

By uniting the knowhow of our experts, many of which are also academic authorities in their field, we can offer full-fledged solutions.

New opportunities

Since 2010, Six Construct has been embracing the new opportunities Building Information Modeling has brought to the construction sector. We have created a strong team which has been involved in more than 70 projects worldwide. Using BIM enables us to anticipate, prioritise and solve clashes and supports an agile approach when sudden change requests occur.

BIM is a way of sharing information between a number of partners on a construction project, creating a structured way of organising the whole process using digital 3D models.

In practical terms, BIM creates a model of a construction that no longer uses lines, but instead, digital objects representing the materials and systems: the frame, roofing, walls, installations etc. This technique guarantees an accurate representation of the project, but it also lets you associate certain details with the digital objects, such as their technical properties, their relationship with other objects, how they will be positioned etc.

The BIM approach offers a solution to the problems often encountered on a building site by analysing the sources of any conflicts in advance, so-called “clash detection”, which significantly reduces the cost of errors.
